Japanese construction firm, Sumitomo Mitsui Construction Co., has signed the Phase 2A contract from mass rapid transit operator, PT MRT Jakarta, that stretches from the Hotel Indonesia roundabout in Central Jakarta to West Jakarta. The contract value is around Rp4.6 trillion (US$317.24 million) with a construction period of September 2021 to August 2027.

President Director of the regional company, William Sabandar, explained that the contractor will work on two underground stations and tunnels with length of 1.81 kilometers. He also said that the construction will carry a design with the Sunken Entrance concept, which is an entry height that is lower than the entrance in general with the aim of preserving the visuals of cultural heritage buildings.

Together with the construction of 2A construction, MRT Jakarta will also encourage the development of transit oriented development around the lines through partnerships and collaboration with the community and various stakeholders.
