The Indonesian Cement Association (ASI) has high hopes for Indonesia’s cement exports this year. Widodo Santoso, Chairman of the ASI, said he wants the nation’s exports grow to the range of 2-3 million tons in 2017, up from 1.5 million tons in the preceding year (implying nearly 100% year-on-year growth). By the year 2019 the association targets to see 5 million tons of cement exports shipped abroad from Indonesia. Santoso is optimistic that Indonesia can boost its cement exports this year, particularly to Africa, the Middle East, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Australia and Timor Leste because domestic cement production in these countries is very limited.
