The gross domestic product (GDP) or Indonesian economy grew by 5.01% year on year (y/y) in first quarter (Q1) of 2017, higher than 4.92% y/y in Q1 of 2016. The GDP reached Rp3,227.2 trillion in the period. The highest growth, from production side, posted by information and communication sector (9.1%). While from spending side, the highest growth posted by export of goods and services (8.04%). Compared to Q4 of 2016, the GDP declined 0.34% (q/q) due contraction in government spending and contraction in some business sectors (production side). Java island contributed 58.49% GDP, followed by Sumatera (21.95%), and Kalimantan (8.33%).
