Last week, the Democratic Party tried to push the House of Representatives (DPR) to using their right of inquiry (hak angket) to investigate the allegation that their party chairman Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono (SBY) had been wiretapped by President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo, SBY came to the conclusion that he might have been wiretapped after the lawyer of Basuki “Ahok” Tjahaja Purnama spoke of possessing evidence of a phone conversation between the former and the Chairman of the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) Ma’ruf Amin, when Ma’ruf was being cross-examined as a witness in Ahok’s blasphemy trial. This maneuver is still rolling in the DPR. And yet, the Democratic Party, together with three other political parties (PKS, Gerindra & PAN), found another reason for insisting on the usage of the right of inquiry. This time they’d like to question the Government’s decision to re-activate Ahok’s status as the Governor of Jakarta following Ahok’s extended campaign leave. To subscribe please click here
