The Governor of Jakarta Basuki “Ahok” Tjahaja Purnama told the press yesterday that construction of the Light Rail Transit (LRT) project will move ahead. One section in particular will be built in partnership with South Korea. This confirmed the report that we released some months back following a conversation with the Governor. A release in Jakpro’s website notes that land clearing has begun, with the expectation that construction can commence later this year. The Government of the Capital City was previously put in charge of building all of the infrastructure that will support the 2018 Asian Games, but politics developed and forced the Governor to ask for an adjustment of targets. The Jakarta Government is now only in charge of building its portion of the planned LRT corridors (seven corridors supposedly), the Equestrian Park, and the Velodrome. The Central Government, by way of the Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing, is developing the Athletes’ Village, and renovating the Gelora Bung Karno Sports Complex. To subscribe please click here
