The House of Representatives (DPR) Commission I will conduct a fit-and-proper test on the 27 candidates for the new leadership of the Indonesian Broadcasting Commission (KPI) later today (July 18) and tomorrow (July 19). The KPI has the task of giving and/or extending the broadcasting license of television stations; monitoring broadcasting content; and imposing punishment to violators of the broadcasting law. They are currently working with the Ministry of Communication & Informatics on determining whether the broadcasting license of 10 television stations that is due to expire later this year shall be extended. The KPI will also monitor the broadcasting content ahead of the 2019 legislative and presidential elections. It is therefore clear that the KPI has a lot of really important work to do. The question now is whether the Commission I will be able to appoint 9 independent commissioners to serve for the 2016-2019 period. To subscribe please click here
