President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo ran his election with the promise of strengthening Indonesia’s maritime sector. On his inauguration day, the President even felt it was necessary to emphasize his commitment by saying “Jalasveva Jayamahe”, the motto of the Indonesia navy that roughly translates into “in the seas, we triumph”. Many then assume that President Jokowi would focus a lot of his attention on the development of the Navy, but after one year of his presidency, that doesn’t look to be the case.
