Today\u00a0(Jan. 22) the\u00a0Golkar Party is scheduled to announce the new lineup of their central executive board (DPP) under Airlangga Hartarto\u2019s leadership. Rumor is making its way around that Happy Bone Zulkarnain will be the new secretary general to replace Idrus Marham.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Deputy Secretary General of Golkar Muhammad Sarmuji told the press over the weekend that Golkar would\u00a0possibly announce their new lineup today. But when asked by journalist about the rumor of Happy Bone becoming\u00a0secretary general, Sarmuji said\u00a0that there was no final decision.<\/span><\/p>\n

Happy Bone Zulkarnain was born in Bandung on October 29, 1958. He finished his formative study there. He obtained his master\u2019s degree from the Parahyangan University, Bandung, in 1982. He then earned another\u00a0master\u2019s and later a doctoral degree from the Padjajaran University, Bandung, in 1992 and 1998 respectively.<\/span><\/p>\n

He was a Golkar lawmaker at the House of Representatives (DPR) for 2004-2009 period. <\/span>In the 2014 legislative election, he competed in the West Java I electoral regional (Dapil), but failed to collect enough votes<\/span>. In Golkar, he served as deputy secretary general (2009-2015) and the coordinator of Golkar\u2019s West Java chapter (2012-2013). Outside of Golkar, he listed as a member of the experts board of the Association of Indonesian Muslim Intellectuals (ICMI). <\/span><\/p>\n

Happy Bone was once mentioned in the beef import quota graft case. According to the\u00a0<\/span>Director of PT Cipta Inti Permindo (CIP) Yudi Setiawan, a witness in the said case, as quoted by Gatra<\/a><\/span>, <\/span>the commissioner of PT Radina Niaga Mulia Elda Devianne Adiningrat, who\u2019s also one of the suspects in the\u00a0<\/span>beef import quota graft case, asked for US<\/span>$20,000 in cash to be delivered to Happy Bone. Happy and his Golkar Party, however, denied the accusation.<\/span><\/p>\n

If Happy Bone were indeed made secretary general, it would be an indirect confirmation of\u00a0Airlangga’s closeness to Vice President Jusuf Kalla. Happy Bone, as we all know, <\/span>was the campaign manager of Airlangga\u2019s\u00a0chairmanship bid.\u00a0He\u2019s also known for being very close to Kalla.<\/span><\/p>\n

Earlier, Kalla also won the competition of influencing Airlangga as the latter nominated Bambang Soesatyo as the new speaker of the DPR. Bambang, who is known as Novanto\u2019s and Aburizal \u201cIcal\u201d Bakrie\u2019s loyalist, is also close to\u00a0Kalla. Back on\u00a0November 22, 2009, as quoted by Okezone, Bambang thanked Kalla for making\u00a0him editor-in-chief of Suara Karya, a newspaper owned by the Golkar Party. At the time, Kalla was the chairman of Golkar. Bambang\u2019s relationship with Kalla can be also seen through the former\u2019s relationship with Haji Andi Syamsuddin Arsyad a.k.a. Haji Isam, a businessman from Batulicin (South Kalimantan), who shares the same hometown (Bone, South Sulawesi) with Kalla.<\/span><\/p>\n

On that note, it would be interesting to observe\u00a0Golkar\u2019s relationship with President Joko \u201cJokowi\u201d Widodo. Should Kalla remain in the same group with Jokowi, there would be no problem. It would be a different story should Kalla choose to nominate someone like\u00a0Anies Baswedan or Gatot Nurmantyo to challenge Jokowi in the 2019 presidential race.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
