The 2019 Race: Muhaimin’s Ambition & PKB’s Future
We all know that the Chairman of PKB Muhaimin Iskandar a.k.a Cak Imin is trying to becoming President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo’s running mate. But it’s interesting to see that his partymen too are eagerly promoting for him. PKB politician Jazilul Fawaid even said that if Jokowi were to choose someone other than Imin, Imin would challenge the President in the race as a presidential candidate. This comment makes one wonder if PKB is already prepared to leave the ruling coalition for Imin’s sake.

The Chairman of the National Awakening Party (PKB) Muhaimin Iskandar has been traveling all over the country, perhaps in a bid to secure more endorsement in light of the 2019 presidential race. While visiting Jember, East Java, Muhaimin (whois popularly known as Cak Imin) was awarded with the title “the commander of the santri” (santri is a local term for students of the Islamic boarding school/pesantren) and the thousands of santri in the ceremony declared their support of Imin running in the 2019 presidential race. But can such effort help Imin’s odds?

Over the weekend, President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo visited three regions in the Banten province, including the City of Serang. There the President celebrated the Muslim Day of Sacrifice. This presidential weekend trip is interesting given the regional election dynamics in Banten. The Mayor of Serang Tubagus Haerul Jaman has been mentioned as one of the running mate candidates for PDIP’s governor candidate, the incumbent Governor of Banten Rano Karno. Both men were seen accompanying the President. Is this a sign that Rano Karno will eventually pair up with Tubagus Haerul Jaman?
