Improved Mass Transportation Outlook

It’s not perfect yet, but Indonesia has finally operated its first modern mass transportation, the light -rail transit (LRT) in Palembang, South Sumatra province. VP Jusuf Kalla used the LRT from airport to Jakabaring sports city in Palembang, Sunday (Aug 26). In the meantime, the greater Jakarta LRT might eventually be extended to Bogor city center in West Java.

Akbar Tanjung, senior politician from Golkar Party, is listed in the Steering Board of Jokowi-Mar’uf Amin Campaign Team alongside Vice President Jusuf Kalla. Sandiaga & Campaign Funding Commitment

Both the National Mandate Party (PAN) and the Prosperous Justice Party (PKS) denied of receiving Rp500 billion each from Sandiaga Uno as compensation for allowing him to become running mate of Prabowo Subianto. Sandiaga considered the said ‘dowry’ a commitment to finance campaign (legislative?), while politicians from Democratic Party led by Indonesia’s sixth president Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono (SBY) refused to drop their allegations. More anti-graft organizations, in the meantime, mount pressures to the Election Supervisory Agency (Bawaslu) to investigate the case. Say that the combined Rp1 trillion will eventually come out of Sandiaga’s pocket, how would he do that?

2019 Presidential Race: Campaign Leave

President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo is going to have to take a leave when campaigning for his re-election. The good news is that the leave is only effective per the day and time of his campaigning on the road, and that it doesn’t mean that his presidential privileges and duties are stripped off while on leave. That being said, Jokowi seems keen to delegate. Vice President Jusuf Kalla is not going to campaign for the President because he’s going to focus on running the government while Jokowi is on leave. The question then is what will Kalla do while Jokowi is away?

Witness for the Defense: Jusuf Kalla

Suryadharma Ali, the former Minister of Religious Affairs who’s now a graft convict, filed a Reconsideration (PK) petition at the Supreme Court last month. The trial began two weeks after that and Suryadharma still claim innocence. What’s interesting to note from the trial is the presence of Vice President Jusuf Kalla as a witness for Suryadharma. This is the fourth time Jusuf Kalla has attended trials of cases of corruption as a witness for the defense.
