Sorik Marapi Geothermal Revisited

The 240MW Sorik Marapi Geothermal Project is one of the crown jewels of Mandailing Natal Regency in North Sumatera. Discovered in 1980s, the project was awarded to a consortium of Tata Power, Origin Energy, and Supraco Indonesia in 2010. Three years later, unfortunately, exploration activity has yet to commence.

PT Medco Power Indonesia, a joint venture between Medco Energi (MEDC) and Saratoga Investama, has signed a memorandum of understanding with Mperial Power Limited (MPL), subsidiary of Malaysia's Melewar Industrial Group Berhad, regarding power plant projects in Thailand. This is a major overseas acquisition of electricity asset by Indonesian company.

• The Break-Up of Adaro-Trinergy Partnership Electricity

Partnership between Adaro Energy (ADRO) and Trinergy, a company controlled by Herman Affif Kusumo, in the development of Baturaden geothermal in Central Java province ended up with conflicts. Adaro Power, subsidiary of ADRO, is accused of defauting commitments for the partnership. 

• Electricity Projects Update Electricity

Plans from various companies to build mineral smelters to meet mandatory domestic processing by 2014 would boost domestic demand for electricity. That's why some investors are gearing up for expansions, including the newly operated Cirebon coal-fired power plant of Indika Group-Marubeni-Samtan.

• Geothermal: More Attractive Tariff, But... Electricity

Minister of energy and mineral resources Jero Wacik has finally signed regulation No, 22/2012 about new benchmark tariff for power generated by geothermal power plants. The new tariffs are substantially higher at the range of US$10-18.5 cents per kWh.
