The former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Setya Novanto (Golkar), who was widely regarded as the key figure in the E-KTP corruption scandal, was sentenced by the Corruption Court at the Central Jakarta District Court to 15 years in prison in 2018. Despite initially forgoing an appeal, Novanto later pursued a Reconsideration (Peninjauan Kembali/PK), submitting new evidence (novum) through his legal counsel, Maqdir Ismail. The first hearing was held on Aug. 28, 2019 but the process lasted longer than we thought. Over five years later, the Supreme Court announced their decision and the Reconsideration was granted. Novanto’s sentences were slightly reduced.
