The index of leading economic indicators in Japan, which is a gauge of the economy a few months ahead and is compiled using data such as job offers and consumer sentiment, increased to 99.7 in January 2021 from an upwardly revised 97.7 a month earlier, a preliminary data showed. This was the highest reading since September 2018, amid the launch COVID-19 vaccination campaign.
