Oil futures rose for the third session and hovered near an 11-month high on Thursday (Jan 7), with WTI trading around $51 a barrel and Brent above $54 a barrel, boosted by a much bigger-than-expected drop in US crude stocks and a double victory of the Democrats in the Senate in Georgia. The US Electoral College certified Joe Biden as the winner of the Presidential election, despite pro-Trump riots in the Capitol Complex.
