Yesterday (Jan. 5) was an odd day for public health in Indonesia. On the one hand, we saw news of the Minister of Health announcing that the first inoculation of the COVID-19 vaccine would begin on either Jan. 14 or Jan. 15. On the other hand, we also saw the Spokesperson of the Indonesian COVID-19 Mitigation Task Force Wiku Adisasmito begging the public to follow health protocols as the occupancy level of COVID-19 referrals hospitals rose all over the country. It’s a state of emergency, Wiku said. So, should we be hopeful, or should we be more restrained?
