Indonesia’s annual inflation rate inched up to 1.42% in September 2020 from 1.32% and slightly above market expectations of 1.4%. Prices rose at a faster pace for housing & utilities (0.66% vs 0.64% in August), food, drinks, tobacco (1.78% vs 0.79%). Meanwhile, prices increased less for food services & restaurant (2.37% vs 2.45%), recreation, sport & culture (1.07% vs 1.16%), education (1.34% vs 1.61%) and furnishings (1.50% vs 1.55%). On the other hand, prices fell further for both transport (-0.72% vs -0.13%) and information, communication & financial services (-0.42% vs -0.24%). Annual core inflation edged down to 1.86%, the lowest since the series began in 2008, from 2.03% in August, and compared to forecasts of 2.0 percent. On a monthly basis, consumer prices inched down 0.05% in September, the third straight monthly of decline, the same pace as in August.
