Retail sales in Indonesia dropped by 17.1% year-on-year in June 2020, after a 20.6% plunge a month earlier. This marked the seventh straight month of fall in retail trade, amid prolonged impact caused by the COVID-19 crisis that made people to stay at home most of their time. Sales declined less for most categories: clothing (-73.7 percent vs -74 percent in May), information & communication equipment (-16.3 percent vs -19.7 percent), cultural & recreational goods (-44.6 percent vs -53.7 percent), fuel (-27 percent vs -45.4 percent), automotive parts & accessories (-37.8 percent vs -46.9 percent), and food, beverages & tobacco (- 7.6 percent vs -9.7 percent). Meanwhile, sales of home appliances slumped further (-23.1 percent vs -21.9 percent). On a monthly basis, retail sales fell by 2.4 percent in June, after a 4 percent gain in May.
