Government of Indonesia, through the ministry of communication and information technology, plans to auction 2300 MHz radio frequency band for wireless broadband services. According to director at the ministry, Denny Setiawan, the auction was planned to be held this year.

The frequency broadband wireless access introduced in 2009 has 15 zones. Zone 1 for Aceh and North Sumatra. Zone 2 for Riau, Jambi and West Sumatra. Zone 3 for South Sumatra, Bangka Belitung, Bengkulu and Lampung. Zone 4 for Jakarta, Bogor, Depok, Tangerang and Bekasi. Then, Zone 5 for West Java except Bekasi and Bogor. Zone 6 for Yogyakarta and Central Java. Zone 7 for East Java and Madura

While, Zone 8, for Bali, West and East Nusa Tenggara. Zone 9 for Papua and West Papua. Zone 10 for Maluku and North Maluku. Zone 11 for South Sulawesi, Central Sulawesi and West Sulawesi. Zone 12 for North Sulawesi, Central Sulawesi and Gorontalo. Zone 13 for West Kalimantan and Central Kalimantan. Zone 14 for East Kalimantan and South Kalimantan. And, Zone 15 for Riau Islands.

At present, the residents in frequency 2300 MHZ is PT Berca Hardaya Perkasa, who settled in Zone 8 and Zone 3 with 30 MHz and Zone 1 with 15 MHz. Setiawan said, the frequency auction aims to meet the spectrum needs for fast internet broadband for cellular operators in Indonesia. “So it must be balanced,” he adds.
