The State Intelligence Agency (BIN) predicted the peak of the COVID-19 pandemic in Indonesia to happen in the next 60-80 day—based on China’s modelling or 130 days based on British modelling—after the first cases acknowledged in the country. The Government’s COVID-19 Special Task Force, also quoted BIN’s prediction. The former said that the cases of COVID-19 in Indonesia could be as high as 106,287 at the peak of the pandemic. Worse, international media quoted some experts predicting up to 240,000 deaths by the end of April. But looking into the official data provided daily by the Government’s Task Force, we should be more optimistic that the country can avoid the worst-case prediction.
