Retail sales in Indonesia dropped by 0.8 percent year-on-year in february 2020, after a 0.3 percent fall in the previous month. This was the third straight month of decline in retail trade, reflecting the severe damage caused by COVID-19 cases. Sales contracted further for clothing (-40.4 percent vs -27.5 percent in January), information & communication equipment (-34 percent vs -73.1 percent), cultural & recreational goods (-16.8 percent vs -3.2 percent), and fuel (-4.6 percent vs -7.3 percent). In addition, sales growth slowed for food, beverages & tobacco (3.2 percent vs 3.5 percent). Meanwhile, sales of household equipment grew faster (3.7 percent vs 2 percent). On a monthly basis, retail sales fell 0.5 percent in February, following a 7.5 percent slump in January.
