The Indonesian rupiah traded at 16,575 a dollar on Monday at around 03:45 AM GMT, a level unseen since June 1998, following an earlier 15,925, amid mounting fears over COVID-19 pandemic and its impact on the economy. Indonesian health authorities reported that fatalities from the virus jumped to 48 as of Sunday from 38 in the previous day, while the number of infections surged to 514 from 450, and 29 people recovered. To prevent possible virus transmission, authorities since last week has urged people to stay at home and maintain social distancing from others.
