The Jakarta city administration under Governor Anies Baswedan was heavily criticized for cutting down 191 trees in the process of revitalizing the southern area of the National Monument (Monas). The critics not only consider the project as unnecessary, but also destructive of the environment. Many expressed their anger and dubbed the governor’s revitalization project as dumb. Meanwhile, the opposition party in Jakarta’s legislative council (DPRD) PSI calls for an investigation into the said project.
