Over a year ago, the General Election Commission (KPU) announced that they were drafting a regulation that would ban ex-graft-convicts from participating in legislative elections. The plan, as expected, caused a commotion that ended with a petition for Judicial Review and even police report against the officials of regional KPU (KPUD). Eventually, the KPU must give up on their plan because the Ministry of Law and Human Rights strangely refused to promulgate the regulation. Recently, KPU announced that they plan to issue a similar regulation for banning ex-graft convicts from running in the upcoming 2020 regional elections.
