Indonesia unexpectedly posted a trade deficit of US$0.16 billion in September 2019, swinging from a US$0.35 billion surplus in the same month a year earlier. Exports fell 5.74%, led by oil and gas (-37.13%) and non-oil and gas products (-2.70%); while imports dropped at a softer 2.41%, due to oil and gas (-30.50%) and non-oil and gas products (-2.82%). Considering the first nine months of the year, the trade deficit narrowed sharply to US$1.95 billion from US$3.82 billion in the same period of 2018.
