Indonesia’s annual inflation rate increased to 3.49% in August 2019 from 3.32% in the previous month. This was the highest inflation rate since December 2017, as prices increased faster for: foodstuff (5.81% vs 4.85% in July); clothing (5.18% vs 4.19%); education, recreation & sport (3.48% vs 3.30%), and health (3.34% vs 2.93%).

On the other hand, inflation slowed for: housing & utilities (2.37% vs 2.40%); transportation, communication & financial services (1.80% vs 2.21%), and prepared food, beverages, cigarette & tobacco (3.67% vs 3.77%). Annual core inflation came in at 3.30%, the highest since March 2017. On a monthly basis, consumer prices went up 0.12% in August, easing from a 0.31% gain in the prior month, the lowest since March.
