Stock markets across the Asia-Pacific region closed mainly in the green on Friday, after tensions between Japan and South Korea escalated as Seoul cancelled an intelligence-sharing pact with Tokyo and after the onshore yuan dipped to a fresh low since 2008 as investors await Fed Chair Jerome Powell speech later in the day. The Shanghai Composite gained 14 points, or 0.5% to 2,897; the Nikkei rose 83 points, or 0.4% to 20,711, with defence shares among the best performers; the Hang Seng climbed 184 points, or 0.7% and the S&P/ASX 200 added 21 points, or 0.3% to 6,523; while the Kospi edged down 3 points, or 0.1% to 1,948.
