Stock markets across the Asia-Pacific region closed deep in the red on Tuesday following Wall Street’s worst session this year, after Beijing confirmed it is suspending US agricultural imports in response to further US tariffs on $300 billion of Chinese goods announced last week. The Shanghai Composite index plunged 1.6% to 2,778; the Nikkei 225 dropped 0.7% to 20,585; the Hang Seng index lost 0.6% to 25,987; the Kospi fell 1.5% to 1,918; and the S&P/ASX 200 tumbled 2.4% to 6,478.
