Sumatera is another important battleground in the 2019 presidential race considering the island is the second most populous island in Indonesia. More than 34 million voters (almost 20 percent) voters live there. Over the weekend, President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo spent his time in Lampung and South Sumatera, which is the second and the third most populous province in the Island of Sumatera respectively. Meanwhile, the President’s running mate K.H. Ma’ruf Amin remained in the capital city Jakarta to attend several events, including an event held by the Nahdlatul Ulama (NU), the largest Muslim organization in the country.
