In an effort to reduce import of organic chemicals and plastics, which reached more than US$10 billion per annum, the previous administration granted tax holidays facility to PT Petrokimia Butadiene Indonesia, subsidiary of Chandra Asri (TPIA), which invested US$145 million in Cilegon, Banten province. This was followed with tax holiday facility for PT Synthetic Rubber Indonesia (SRI), a JV between Chandra Asri and Michelin (France), which invests US$450 million in the development of synthetit rubber factory.
