The Chinese economy advanced 6.7% year-on-year in the June quarter of 2018, after a 6.8% growth in the previous three quarters. It was the weakest pace of expansion since the third quarter of 2016, amid intensifying tariff battle with the US and efforts to deleverage debt and financial risks.

For the first half of the year, China’s economy expanded by 6.8% compared to the same period 2017. On a quarterly basis, the economy grew by 1.8% in the second quarter 2018, following a 1.4% expansion in the previous three months. It was the strongest quarterly expansion since the September quarter 2017.
