Budi Karya Sumadi, Minister of Transportation, told reporters today that the railway connection to Soekarno-Hatta Airport will start operating in December 2017. Railway operator PT Railink, a subsidiary of PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI), said 10 trains, with a capacity of 33,000 passengers per day, have been prepared to serve airport passengers and personnel. Railink is a joint venture set up between Kereta Api Indonesia and state-owned airport operator PT Angkasa Pura II. The rail link will cut travel time from the city center to the airport, as the roads connecting Soekarno-Hatta International Airport to the city are frequently affected by traffic congestion.
