The rupiah appreciated in September 2017. It strengthened by an average of 0.27% to Rp13,307 per US Dollar in the reporting period. But it started to depreciate at the end of the month, suffered by most global currencies as a result of hightened expectations of policy rate hike, monetary policy normalization, and planned tax reforms in the United States. On Thursday (Oct 19) the rupiah weakened to Rp13,521 against the US dollar on Thursday (Oct 19). The central bank (Bank Indonesia/BI) said it will continue to stabilize the rupiah in line with the currency’s fundamental value, while maintaining market mechanisms.
