The construction of the first track of the Jakarta-Surabaya semi-high speed train project is planned to commence next year. Minister of Transportation Budi Karya Sumadi said that two-phase project is estimated to cost Rp80 Trillion. The first phase will reportedly be a Jakarta-Semarang section (anticipated for completion within 2 years). While the second phase (Semarang-Surabaya) will start construction by 2019. Sumadi said the semi-high speed train project is currently under study, by a team of Japanese specialists, with a plan to be completed at the the end of November.
