The Democratic Party, which is currently led by former president Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono (SBY), wanted to know where President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo stood in the House of Representatives (DPR)’s inquiry on the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK). There’s nothing wrong with the Democratic Party asking so. They’re free to criticize the President. But it’s important to note that the mainstream messaging associated with this political drama is that there is an attempt at weakening the KPK. By questioning the President’s stance, it appears as if the Democratic Party is trying to cast the blame on the President; that the President, for being supposedly silent, is complicit in the attempt at dissolving the KPK. If this is indeed what the Democratic Party is doing, it would do them well to recalculate their approach. The Democratic Party is putting themselves in a tricky situation, for they may be called hypocrites. To subscribe please click here
