State fertilizer firm PT Pupuk Kujang plans to build coal gasification plant by end this year aimed for cost efficiency in production. Overall, the national fertilizer market is under pressure by oversupply issue in Asia region. The import of urea from China also adds to problems for national fertilizer firms. According to data from Central Statistic Bureau (BPS), the import of urea soared to 625.90 million kilograms in 2016, from 95.43 million kilograms in 2015.  The gas price remains at US$6 per MMBtu while fertilizer firms in China utilize coal then their costs of production are cheaper. Coal utilization could lead into cost efficiency of equal US$4.5-5 pr MMBtu gas price.
