On Tuesday May 23, President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo was in a bright mood. His administration’s 2016 financial report had just received an unqualified opinion from the Supreme Audit Agency (BPK), the first in 12 years. In just three days, however, the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) arrested BPK and Ministry of Village, Development of Disadvantaged Regions, and Transmigration (Kemendes) officials on account of bribery on connection with the granted of “unqualified” opinion for the Ministry’s 2016 financial report.
