The capital city of Jakarta was only one of the 101 regions that participated in the 2017 simultaneous regional elections. Here are the results of the quickcounts in some of the regional elections that are worth highlighting.

Banten

Based on the result of the quickcount from pollster Indikator Politik Indonesia, PDIP governor candidate Rano Karno and his running mate Embay Mulya Syarief are only separated by a razor-thin margin from Democratic Party’s governor candidate Wahidin Halim and his running mate Andika Hazrumy (who is also Golkar politician and the son of former Banten Governor Ratu Atut Chosisyah). According to Indikator, incumbent Rano-Embay got 49.69% of the votes while Wahidin-Andika secured 50.31% of the votes. Another pollster Indo Barometer released a similar quickcount result: Wahidin-Andika with 50.67% of the votes and Rano-Embay with 49.33%.

Neither Indikator not Indo Barometer was keen on concluding that the incumbent had lost given the margin. The local election commission (KPUD) is still conducting their official count, the result of which will be announced on Feb. 25-27, 2017.

Should the KPUD’s calculation confirm the quickcount results, Rano-Embay and Wahidin-Andika may move forward with a lawsuit at the Constitutional Court (MK). As per Article 158 Paragraph 1 letter c of Regional Election Law No. 10/2016, those who lose the election with a maximum margin of separation of 1% may challenge the result of the election at the MK.

Rano-Embay, as we all know, is endorsed by a coalition of PDIP, Nasdem, and PPP. While Wahidin-Andika is backed by a big coalition of Democratic Party, Golkar, Gerindra, PKS, PKB, PAN, and Hanura. It would be a bid loss for PDIP should Rano loses the election.

Aceh

Vice Governor Muzakir “Mualem” Manaf and his running mate T.A. Khalid, and former Governor Irwandi Yusuf and his running mate Nova Iriansyah have both claimed to be the winner of the election. Muzakir-Khalid is backed by a coalition of the Aceh Party, Gerindra, PKS, and PBB. While Irwandi-Nova is endorsed by a coalition of Democratic Party, PDIP, the Aceh National Party (PNA), and the Aceh Peace Party (PDA).

Muzakir-Khalid claimed as the winner of the election with a landslide victory based on their own quickcount—according to which Muzakir-Khalid secured 41.52% of the votes, and Irwandi-Nova secured 31.96% of the votes. Four other gubernatorial pairs, including incumbent Governor Zaini Abdullah, meanwhile, failed to get significant votes.

Muzakir-Khalid also won the election based on the quickcount of the Kesbangpol Aceh. The pair secured 35.2% of the votes. Irwandi-Nova and Tarmizi Karim-Teuku Zaini Djalil trail behind with 33.5% and 18.6% of the votes respectively. The odd thing is that the Kesbangpol Aceh late denied that they had released said quickcount result.

Meanwhile, Irwandi-Nova also claimed that they had won the election. Based on their own quickcount result, the pair claimed to have secured 42.9% of the votes, while Muzakir-Khalid only got 27.4%.

Bangka Belitung (Babel)

Poltracking Indonesia’s quickcount result shows that PDIP may have lost the Babel election. According to Poltracking, incumbent Rustam Effendi and running mate Muhammad Irwansyah is the runner up with 22.9% of the votes with the winner of the election being Erzaldi Rosman Johan and running mate Abdul Fatah with 41.7% of the votes. Two other pairs, Hidayat Arsani-Sukirman and Yusron Ihza Mahendra-Yusroni Yazid, got 18.19% and 17.84% respectively. Erzaldi Rosman Johan-Abdul Fatah, as we all know, is backed by a coalition of Gerindra, Nasdem, and PKB.

West Papua

In West Papua, PDIP’s governor candidate Dominggus Mandacan and his running mate Muhammad Lakotani won the gubernatorial election based on the quickcount result released by LSI—Dominggus-Lakotani is also backed by Nasdem, PAN, and PKPI.

Based on LSI’s quickcount result, Dominggus-Lakotani won the election with a landslide victory after securing 62.04% of the votes. Stephanus Malak-Ali Hindom—the pair endorsed by Golkar and the Democratic Party—got 23.53% of the votes. Whereas incumbent Irene Manibuy-Abdullah Manaray—the pair backed by a coalition of PKS, PKB, Hanura and PPP—only got 14.41% votes.
