Considering the strategic value of the capital city, particularly with regards to how winning Jakarta’s 2012 gubernatorial race contributed to Jokowi’s victorious 2014 presidential race, Jakarta’s 2017 race will be a much bigger competition than a competition between gubernatorial pairs; it will be a competition between the giants rallying behind each pair.
