Local media in the province of Banten reported that the incumbent Governor Rano Karno, who has been officially re-endorsed by PDIP, will register himself to the local election office (KPUD) today (Sep 22) with his running mate Embay Mulya Syarief, a senior politician from PPP and one of the province’s influential figures. Absent a third pair of contenders from Gerindra and assuming the two independent pairs fail to pass the verification process, we’d see Rano-Embay competing head-to-head against the pair from a coalition led by Democratic Party and Golkar: Wahidin Halim and his running mate Andika Hazrumy, who is the son of former Governor Ratu Atut Chosiyah.
