Traffic fatalities has become a routine in every Eid Ul-Fitr exodus. This year, both national and international media, was particularly drawn to the horrific traffic jam at the Brebes Timur exit. So bad was the gridlock that 11 people reportedly died (some reports even mentioned 12, but the exact number of fatalities has not been made clear) due to heart attack, heat exhaustion, fatigue, and dehydration. With that came the chorus of blames. Jokowi’s predecessor Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono (SBY) capitalized on the tragedy by criticizing Jokowi’s administration. The former President claimed that he was successful at managing the annual exodus that happened during his tenure. PKS politician Fahri Hamzah, meanwhile, took the opportunity to call for the resignation of Jokowi’s cabinet members. To subscribe please click here
