The Governor of Nanggroe Aceh Darussalam Zaini Abdullah will enter the 2017 Aceh gubernatorial election as an incumbent independent candidate with Nasaruddin, the former Regent of Aceh Tengah, as his running mate. The current Vice Governor Muzakkir Manaf a.k.a. Mualem will also enter the race with the backing of Aceh Party (PA), the largest political party in Aceh, and Prabowo Subianto’s Gerindra Party.
