One need only check the commentary section of news articles announcing Governor Basuki “Ahok” Tjahaja Purnama’s decision to run as an independent, with running mate Heru Budi Hartono, to see the overwhelmingly positive response from the readers. It’s good news from many. Running as an independent means Ahok will not be bound by duty to any political party endorsers—a problem many have picked up by witnessing the rise of Joko “Jokowi” Widodo’s presidency.
