Go-Jek, a social enterprise led by Nadiem Makarim, was established with the goal to professionalize motorcycle taxi (ojek) service and improve the welfare of ojek riders. Since early 2015, Go-Jek has been aggressively expanding their business by progressively rolling out additional services—trucking service, on-call cleaning service, and on-call massage service—, and offering low promotional rates to its customers. The company also expanded its operation into 10 cities—the Greater Jakarta, Bandung, Bali, Surabaya, Semarang, Medan, Palembang, Yogyakarta, Makassar and Balikpapan—and attracted more than 150,000 partner riders.
