President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo officiated the groundbreaking of the Batang power plant project (PLTU Batang) in Central Java earlier today, as scheduled. There were doubts that the President would attend the groundbreaking ceremony because a sizeable portion of the land parcels required for building PLTU Batang had not yet been acquired. And that is true until today. The media reported that there remained over 12 hectares of land to be acquired for the construction of PLTU Batang, but the number went down to 9 hectares recently. So there has actually been progress, and this is perhaps why the President was willing to take the risk of being disappointed. To subscribe please click here
