A large billboard sign at the Kigalli airport greets visitors with a warning: “the use of non-biodegradable polythene bags is prohibited.” Indeed, the Republic of Rwanda is the first country in the world that bans the usage of plastic bags. This policy has been implemented since 2008. Will Indonesia be able to follow Rwanda’s lead?
