HM Sampoerna (HMSP), the largest cigarette producer in Indonesia, booked net profit of Rp5.03 trillion in the first half of 2014, inched up 0.5% from the corresponding period of 2013 even though its sales revenue grew 8% to Rp39 trillion. Higher excise tax cuts significantly the company’s net profit. Gudang Garam (GGRM), the second largest player, on the other hand, posted a strong 23.2% growth in net profit for the period.
