Do presidential endorsements matter in Indonesia? We don’t really know. There isn’t any available empirical research on which we can rely to form a good judgement. What we do know is that Indonesia is a country plagued with instances of abuse of power. So, while endorsements from a sitting president may not directly affect the electorates voting preference, it may give the endorsee strategic advantages.
